Stop playing Christian

As I am writing this, I am sitting at work. I was reading the scripture of the day that sits on my desk. And this is what it said:

We must die to self, so that Christ can live in us — otherwise, we are merely playing the part of a Christian.
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2:20‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[After reading this, a feeling of holy frustration came over me. It’s like I was seeing a glimpse of God’s frustration that He has been holding back. For thousands of years, God has held back His anger and given us grace and mercy.

“God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.”

Psalms 7:11

But, we are in the end times. There will be a time when God pours out His wrath on the world. Yes, He is a good and gracious God, but He is also a just God.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.”

Romans 1:18

Here is what He put on my heart.]

What does it really mean to die to your self? What does that look like in your personal life?

Dying to yourself is not easy. It is hard. But, it is worth it. It comes down to whether you love the Lord more than your own life, comfort and happiness. Newsflash! God is not worried about your earthly happiness. Yes, He wants you to be happy, but not at the cost of your eternal life and not at the cost of someone else’s. A lot of people don’t realize that He doesn’t promise us happiness. He promises us peace and joy. Joy is not the same as happiness. Joy is there regardless of your circumstances and situations. Happiness relies on the temporary things around you. Joy transcends happiness. Same with peace. The peace that God promises passes all understanding. That means that you will have peace in Him even when it doesn’t make sense. I don’t know about you, but I would rather something that lasts over something that can be taken in an instant.

Dying to yourself means that even if something brings you happiness, but it is against God’s word, then you shouldn’t do it. Dying to yourself means that if you don’t want to do something because it is hard or makes your uncomfortable but it is what God wants, you do it because you love Him. Just because something feels good doesn’t make it of God. Satan can make you make happy too. Actually, that’s a number one tactic that Satan has.

In a relationship, do you go and cheat on your spouse because it makes you happy and expect them to sit around and be ok with it because it makes you happy?! No! What sense does that make?? It’s the same with Christ. You go and cheat on Him and hurt Him because you want to sin and you expect Him to just sit there and be fine with it. He is not fine with it! Romans 2:5 says, “But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.” Don’t taken His forgiveness for granted. Stop treating the God who gave His life for you worse than you treat your friends who haven’t done anything for you!

WAKE UP! If you really are a follower of Christ, then you are the bride of Christ. Stop cheating on Him. Stop saying one thing and doing another. Stop claiming to be a Christian and letting your actions scream the opposite.

“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Matthew 10:28

I choose Christ above anyone and anything else.

I refuse to “play the part of a Christian.”

I am all in.
